Photo Etched Brass for Kiosk Panels

One thing I neglected to mention in my previous post is that the prototype subway kiosk has 3 raised/inset panels per section of knee wall.

For those, I saw an assortment of photo etched brass “grids” as well as a number of various scale ladders at the hobby store today.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have my blueprints or N scale ruler with me so I didn’t purchase any of them.  But my intent is to use some form of commerially available photo etched brass to create the subtlely raised panels on the kiosk model.

I don’t think it will be a problem to find or modify something to be the correct size.  But I do think it will be very difficult to get these perfectly aligned and spaced on the model.

I’m going to proceed with scratchbuilding the subway kiosk as is without these panel details for now and see how that goes.

Any alternative throughts on creating this tiny details would be appreciated.

I also need to decide whether I’m going to attempt other intricate details like the fluting on the kiosk posts.  Probably not.

  1. The brass grid I have wanted to use for windows but may be a little tricky for the raised panels.

Something I have wanted to try but haven’t that may work for the fluting is to draw the fluting on something like Illustrator to scale, and then print them out on clear decal paper and apply. If done right it should give the illusion of the flutes, but again I haven’t tried it yet. It may work for some of the other fine details as well.

The decal paper is a brilliant idea! I may have to give that a shot.
