Pennsylvania Railroad “J” Tower Photos

I was cleaning through some old files and came across photos from a trip to the Strasburg Railroad Museum near Lancaster, PA.

I don’t have much information to share about these but wanted to at least post the photos of Pennsylvania Railroad’s “J” Tower that stands outside of the museum.  This tower is available as a laser cut N Scale J Tower kit from GCLaser Innovations.

And one more photo from the museum that I like, even thought it’s not of the tower…

Photos of Union Station in Washington, DC

Recently, I posted that I was taking a business trip to Union Station via the Amtrak Acela and would post any photos when I returned.

Unfortunately, I was with a large group of people and was not able to take any pictures of real interest.  But I did manage to take a couple of quick shots of Union Station itself — just quickly as I left the station and a couple more from a bus.

Rather then post the few that I took here, I’ll just refer you to my Flickr collection if you’re interested.

Random Photo: New York City Traffic Jam, 1945

From the Life magazine photo archive, this photo showing a New York City traffic jam of taxicabs and cars was taken in 1945.

What I love about photos like this is studying the structures and the actual life in the photos.  For example, look at the number of awnings and flag poles in this photo. Interesting in fact, that almost every structure on the left has an awning and yet, very few have an awning on the right. I’m assuming that this is entirely driven by the direction of the sun throughout the day.  Something to keep in mind when modeling the 40s rather than given every structure an awning.

I also find it interesting that in this relatively wide view, there is only a single tree!
